The Mystical Symbols

Now, because I am nursing a bloody toothache as I write - and it's the holiday week so no one answers the 'phone in the dentist's office - I am going to share some valid quotes from a couple of other individuals, and one of mine, that I have saved in my notes to be used at some point within these articles. Now would seem as good a time as any to share some with you since I am some what lacking my creative juices due to this tooth 'thingie'! So, bear with me. The quotes used will further illustrate the theme that is inspiring these articles.

Firstly, from the late Joseph Campbell, a profound individual, who inspired George Lucas to write his "Star Wars".

"The theme of the Grail story is the bringing of life into the wasteland --- the wasteland is people out of authenticity, living someone else's life path ---- upon entering the forest where it is the darkest, there is no path ---- Those who can see and enter the castle of the Grail are those with spiritual readiness."

And again from Joseph Campbell :

"Society is disintegrating because we have lost our symbols ---- and we have become ethical instead of mystical ----- there is no conflict between mysticism and science ---- Will there ever be a recovery of the mystical realizations of life?"

And from an Indian mystic the following which I find very relative to the present time:

"Today the urgent need of mankind is not sects or organized religions, but LOVE. Divine love will conquer hate and fear. It will not depend upon other justifications, but will justify itself.

It will restore to him the unfathomable richness of his own eternal being and will solve all of his problems. The new "religion" will teach the knowledge of the One behind the many.

There exists at the moment a universal dissatisfaction and an indescribable longing for something that will end the chaos and misery that is holding the world in its grip. The world will move to real happiness and peace when people look more deeply into things than heretofore.

The West looks at things from the standpoint of reason and logic, and is skeptical about things which baffle the intellect. Intellect is the lowest form of understanding and is simply developed by reading, hearing, reasoning and logic. These processes create an illusion of knowledge.

Do whatever needs to be done, but do it as a spiritual being, as one who knows he is divine by nature and unlimited with the whole of life in essence. Do it with utmost concentration, yet with utter detachment for the results of action. Do it as if it were the most important thing in the universe, yet let it be destroyed, or ignored, or ridiculed without concern, or let it be praised without elation. Do it, in short, as if you were not doing it at all, but as if God were doing it through you.

This is the springtide of creation. A new release of power, a new awakening of consciousness, a new experience of life will come forth - not merely for a few, but for all. The transition from sensation to reason was one such step; the transition from reason to intuition will be another.

When from the depths of our hearts, we desires something more lasting than wealth and something more than material power, the wave will recede. Then peace will come, joy will come, light will come.

This love and knowledge is the greatest treasure it is possible for us to receive - a treasure that includes all other treasures, that will endure forever, that increases when shared with others. Be ready to receive it." Meher Baba.

Finally, an extract from a recent letter I wrote to a young friend:

"Here are some thoughts I'd like to share with you, and I'm sure that these thoughts will have been yours as well - maybe not expressed with the same words but what are words but the colours we use to try and express the inexpressible.

Once we are consciously aware that life is a "Journey of Discovery" we will be drawn, from time to time in that journey, to "teachers" or individuals we feel are more aware than we are and from whom we can learn and benefit by connecting with them. So, as I have seen in my life, as I have journeyed I have had the incredible benefit of several teachers who have pushed me on - and who, when I look back, knew when it was time to kick me out of their nest lest I become too comfortable in it and by giving my power away to them would begin to stagnate. By kicking me out there has then been a period of simply traveling with the necessary opportunity of living what I had learned from that teacher. In other words putting it to the test by being out of the classroom.

Once learned then in time another would appear or to whom I would be drawn and again the help is given to inspire and motivate me to further the unfolding of this that we search for - only to begin to realize that we have always been "there" and each teacher helped to remove another layer of the blindfolds!! These are the True teachers for there is no thought of self aggrandizement or glorification - Only a profound love and dedication to the Journey and all that it means.

Those teachers who attempt to hang onto students and attempt to draw others into their nest are not those whom I seek - nor should you."
